Project Spotlight: Bespoke Utility Cable Enclosure on a Highway Bridge
This recent project highlights our ability to deliver innovative, first-of-its-kind solutions under real-world constraints. We were tasked with providing a solution to safely route utility cables across an existing highway bridge, a challenge that required both structural sensitivity and practical installation within a live environment.
Rather than relying on standard containment systems that didn’t suit the needs of this project, we developed a bespoke design using precast concrete blockwork, incorporating a hollow internal section to house and protect the utility services. One of the key successes of this project was the ability to balance structural integrity with practical installation in a highly constrained environment. Working on an existing highway bridge meant that any solution had to respect the limitations of the structure while also accommodating the safe routing and long-term protection of critical utility services. By developing a bespoke precast concrete system with an integrated hollow section, we were able to create a solution that met these requirements without the need for extensive structural alteration.
This solution was designed and tailored specifically to the spatial and structural constraints of the site to integrate with the existing bridge structure, whilst being engineered to safely encase and protect multiple utility cables. Our team installed the structures alongside a live highway with minimal disruption.
By combining design, engineering, and fabrication expertise, we were able to deliver a solution that met both functional and structural requirements of our client.
