We are proud to announce the successful completion of a major bridge reconstruction project in Berwick St James, Wiltshire.
Commissioned by the local authority, this project saw us take on the full demolition and rebuild of a bridge that had reached the end of its serviceable life. The structure is a vital link for local residents and businesses, connecting rural villages with the wider Wiltshire road network. Delivering a safe, modern replacement was therefore an important priority.
Our team managed every stage of the works, from early site preparation through to final handover. We combined modern engineering methods with sensitivity to the historic character of the area, while working hard to minimise disruption for the community.
The bridge was constructed using precast concrete reinforced with prestressed rebar to provide strength and durability. The precast concrete units were manufactured off-site and installed on location, allowing us to streamline the build, reduce disruption, and ensure consistent quality. These units were integrated with in-situ concrete pours to create a robust and seamless finish. By combining precast elements with traditional reinforced construction techniques, we achieved a structure that not only meets today’s transport demands but also ensures long-term stability.
The Council designed the bridge to incorporate:
- Increased load capacity to accommodate modern traffic needs
- Enhanced safety measures, including improved barriers and pavements
- A design life of 120 years by including weatherproofing and a higher grade concrete, ensuring long term resilience for the local network

Commenting on the completion of the works, Project Manager Zane Engelbrecht said:
“This project was a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate our expertise in complex infrastructure works. We’re especially pleased to have delivered the bridge on schedule, despite some challenging conditions, and to know it will provide lasting value for Berwick St James and the wider community.”
The Berwick bridge rebuild is the latest in a series of successful civil engineering projects we have delivered across Wiltshire and the South West, reflecting our ongoing commitment to high-quality, reliable infrastructure.
