Architectural Steelwork for Mixed-Use Workspace and Luxury Living
Client Requirement
Our client required a complete architectural metalwork solution for a landmark mixed-use development in the heart of London. Combining shared workspace facilities with high-end penthouse apartments, the project demanded both structural integrity and exceptional aesthetic quality.
With multiple building elements dependent on the completion of our steelwork – from the rooftop penthouse frames and focal-point glass atrium roof, to staircases, balconies, and wind posts – meeting tight programme deadlines was critical. As this was a high-value, design-led scheme, precision workmanship and flawless finishes were essential to reflect the premium nature of the space and satisfy both the developer client’s vision and the expectations of future occupants.
Our Approach
This was a complex, design-led project requiring our expertise from survey through to final installation. We created bespoke structural and architectural steel elements to meet the project’s ambitious aesthetic and performance requirements.
Working closely with the client and design team, we undertook detailed site surveys before producing fabrication drawings for a wide range of elements, including:
- Structural framing for the rooftop penthouse apartments
- Wind posts for balustrading
- Cantilever and Juliet balconies
- Staircases - including main and fire escape
- Architectural balustrading
- Large steel and glass atrium roof framework
Our works were carefully phased to meet the programme and avoid delays to dependent trades, with multiple elements designed, fabricated, and installed in parallel to maximise efficiency.
Installation Highlights
- Complex lifting and access: With restricted space for lifting operations, especially for the atrium roof, we deployed compact handling equipment and additional labour to move and position all steel components safely and efficiently.
- Rebar detection challenge: Original plans incorrectly marked the rebar locations, requiring us to bring in specialist scanning equipment to identify safe drill points for the wind posts.
- Architectural precision: All components were fabricated to the highest finish standards, ensuring the clean lines and premium aesthetic demanded by this high-end scheme.
- Programme management: Concurrent works on multiple elements helped us meet or beat the original project schedule without compromising quality.
