Impact: Refurbished salt barns with enhanced durability and protection against corrosion safeguarding critical winter infrastructure
Salt barns are critical infrastructure for winter road maintenance but are subject to severe corrosion due to prolonged salt storage. This corrosion damages reinforcing steel within the concrete wall panel sections, causing structural deterioration as the steel expands and cracks the surrounding concrete. M Group and Hampshire County Council engaged Triangle to carry out a refurbishment programme that would extend the service life of barns in the area, improve safety, and protect the structures against future corrosion.

Panel Replacement Risks – We overcame the challenge of removing and replacing existing wall panels without damaging the adjacent sections by using careful dismantling methods and bespoke casting, which allowed for precise installation with no structural compromise.
Working at Height – We addressed the challenge of cleaning and painting the barn’s steel frame safely at height while avoiding roof sheet damage by using specialist access systems and low-impact cleaning methods, ensuring both worker safety and roof integrity.
This salt barn project highlights Triangle’s expertise in specialist concrete works, corrosion prevention, and structural refurbishment
